Land Resources Information System

LRIS is a web-based GIS platform developed by the Land Use Department, Kerala and Digital University Kerala to empower local bodies with scientific data for sustainable land and resource planning. Now upgraded to LRIS 2.0, it offers an intuitive interface with updated land use data to support GIS-based grassroot-level planning.

About Us

Land Use Department

Empowering Kerala’s land governance, the Land Use Department drives sustainable planning and GIS solutions for effective resource management across the state.

Originally established in 1975 as the Kerala State Land Use Board under the Department of Planning and Economic Affairs, the organization has evolved over decades of dedicated service. In 2007, it was declared a State Government Department, and in 2025, it was renamed as the Land Use Department.

The department plays a pivotal role in formulating land use policies and providing strategic advice on sustainable utilization of land resources—soil, water, and bio-resources. It also serves as a vital GIS resource center, supporting various line departments in planning, implementation, and monitoring of developmental initiatives.
